Company

Monition exists so partners hear about new work while it is still on the record.

Origination intelligence for law firms. Invite only, a few firms at a time.

A letter from the founders

Most new legal work is visible before anyone asks for advice.

It sits in a creditor list, a new charge, a late set of accounts, a proposed rule. Nobody at a firm has time to read all of it, so firms hear about the need after the client has already chosen counsel.

The firms that win that work are rarely the ones that read the record first. They are the ones where a partner happened to know someone, and happened to hear in time. We think the second half of that can stop being luck.

We started Monition to read that record every day and do three things with it: forecast which companies will need counsel, for what and roughly when; show which of your partners already has a way in; and prepare a first draft that cites only the public record. The partner edits, signs and sends it from their own email, or decides not to. Monition never sends anything.

We are careful about what Monition will not do. Monition looks at organisations only. Conflicts are cleared in your own system before anything is drafted. When a filing touches one of your clients, the relationship partner hears about it, and the client is never approached. These rules are not settings a firm can turn off.

A forecasting tool with no track record should not ask to be trusted. So every forecast is scored against what actually happened, misses first, and each firm receives a scorecard in week 8. If the forecasts are not good enough, the scorecard says so before we do.

Monition is invite-only, and we bring firms on a few at a time: firms with a practice to start in, a partner who will tell us when a forecast is useless, and a general counsel who will read the brief properly. If that sounds like your firm, join the waitlist.

Why now

Three things changed at once.

None of them is new on its own. Together they make a forecast that cites its evidence possible.
01

The record is published, but nobody reads all of it.

Dockets, registries, charges and regulator notices are published every day, in more places than a business development team can read. The signal is public; the time to read it is not.

02

Software can now read a filing and point to the line.

Language models can read records at the volume this needs, and cite the record they relied on. That is what makes a forecast checkable rather than a hunch.

03

Firms already hold the other half.

Who knows whom sits in the firm’s CRM. Read-only, it is enough to show which partner already has a way in, without anyone outside the firm seeing it.

Principles

How we decide what to build.

  1. Prediction is the product.

Most of the value is in knowing early. The first draft is a small last step, and the partner owns it.

  2. Show the evidence.

Every forecast cites the records behind it. Strength is shown with a record count and timing as a range, never as a percentage.

  3. Score ourselves where firms can see it.

Every forecast is scored against what the record shows next, misses first. How scoring works.

  4. The partner decides.

Monition never sends anything. A partner edits, signs and sends from their own email, or doesn’t.

  5. Conduct rules come before features.

If a feature would break one of the rules, Monition does not have it. The rules.

  6. Shaped by the firms that use it.

Invited firms shape what comes next and pay a flat fee per firm, never per company or introduction.1

Founders

Two founders, one for the product, one for the firms.

Tomás Borja Madero

Co-founder, product

Owns what Monition reads, how it forecasts, and how every forecast is scored.

Juan Pablo Barrios Gómez

Co-founder, commercial

Owns the firms Monition works with: who is invited, what they need, and the agreements behind it.

Professional conduct

The rules come first, and they are written down.

Organisations only, conflicts cleared in your own system, the partner sends and Monition never does, clients alerted and never approached. The full rules, what happens to your data and a brief for your general counsel are on one page.
